Sam Whitehead is a recurring character in Season 3 of True Detective played by John Earl Jelks.

Whitehead is questioned by Detectives Wayne Hays and Roland West during the events surrounding the disappearance of Will and Julie Purcell. His right eye was filmy, and he matched the description of a person who bought several white dolls from Patty Faber that were found near the crime scene. When questioning Whitehead, the presence of the police in the black neighborhood almost escalated to violence.
