Rose Aguineau is a local woman who found the bodies of the missing scientists.

History[]

Rose was at home when she suddenly saw her dead lover, Travis Cohle, in the distance. After some time, she finally followed him to the bodies of the eight scientists who had disappeared from Tsalal Arctic Research Station. She called the police and reported the discovery, telling them that Travis found them.[1]

Rose and Navarro watched from a distance as the police worked on the bodies. Rose told Navarro she should go home, but Navarro said she couldn't because the case was tied to Annie's. Rose told her to come see her later.

At Rose's place, Rose said she really only saw Travis when he wanted something from her. He'd said goodbye to her before walking out on the ice, not wanting leukemia to kill him. She never saw the dead before Travis, but knew some people who'd been seeing them since birth. She said sometimes people came to visit, some to tell you something, and some to take you with them and you needed to know the difference. When Navarro told her about Julia seeing people, Rose told her not to mistake the spirit world for mental illness. Finally, Rose drew the symbol that had been on Lund's forehead and told Navarro it was older than Ennis.[2]

On Christmas Eve, Navarro came to see Rose, who had prepared an elaborate feast and dressed up. When Navarro asked, Rose told her past as a professor.[3]

Rose broke through the ice with an ice axe to allow Navarro to spread Julia's ashes in the ocean. Rose was then startled to see Navarro walk out onto the thinner ice. She called to Navarro, but Navarro didn't initially respond. When Navarro finally replied, Rose had her lie down on the ice facing her and then lay down herself. She helped pull Navarro to safety and questioned why she was walking out on the ice like that.[4]

When Pete came to Rose with the bodies of his father and Otis Heiss asking Rose to take him to Julia on orders from Navarro, she took him out on the ice and directed him on how to cut through. Then she cut Hank's body to release the air from his lungs so he would sink. Then she had Pete dump the body. Once it was done, she warned him that while he thought the hard part was over, the hard part was forever.[5]
