Errol Childress is not a stereotypical dumb redneck: he is a polymath, likely self-educated and enigmatic deranged serial killer that was a follower of the twisted and brutal Tuttle cult, operating in Lousiana. Childress is the primary antagonist of the first season of True Detective.

he Kidnaps unfortunate down and out women or children brutally torture and rape them before murdering them and leaving their bodies in disturbing ritulistic poses(For example Dora Lange Ep1). Crystal meth was also found in the blood of Dora Lange suggesting he drugged them for several days before carrying out the rituals.
